hi there i just revamped my tank into a new tank, the only one is still going and been cleaned out nicely, but i got a rock covered with macroalgea i guess it's called.  i'd rather not put it back in my tank cause the seaweed is becoming a nuissance, i dont even know what it's called.  i heard a yellow tang might eat it, im wondering if theres any other little fish that might eat it (suitable for nano-type tank)? heres a pic with that algea-seaweed it in.

That's definitely not algae...looks like some form of anemone.

the picture is of a galaxea frag, the algea is growing all around it.  it looks like seaweed.

WOW!! Sure got that one wrong.   I've never seen actual seaweed growing in a tank, but then I'm relatively new to the game.

macroaglae, called halimeda
might try doing a search on that and seeing what you get as to how to control it
i believe its fairly good for you tank granted it doesnt hit the sexual stage, like most macroalgae

Thats what it looked like to me as well Rudy, but I'm not positive.  I have a Halimeda species in my display tank which has a much more rounded, thick leaf. You can look at it by following clicking my sig. One sure sign of Halimeda is the hiding of chlorophyll when the lights go out. The plant turns white as the chlorophyll migrates into the calcareous structure making the algae appear white.

This does not loo like halimeda for me... My tangs would be happy if they will have some in my tank :) Bring some to the next OVAS meeting.
But I'm sure tang will not be happy in 20G!

yeah i dont know what it is but a tang would be too much for me thats why i want a smaller fish capable of eating eat...

Do you have emerald crab? If you get rid of mantis (or other misterious crabs predator) you may try to get one.
They graze on algae but not sure if they will interested in this one. Maybe somebody else have an experience and they may tell more... Post a question on AC.

thanks i'll try it, i'll wait until i hear that snapping sound and once im sure he's not in there i'll try out the emerald crab.

28gal reef? Do you have room to squeeze in a Dwarf angel like a Resplendent or Purple Fireball?

fender316

yay looks like the emerald crab does the job, thanks!
