This just happened to me yesterday on one of my 33's.  Wife called and thought the tank was about to blow because water appeared to be coming from the side of the tank.  Made quite a mess.

I pulled the basket out, turned it around, and it clicked into place better.

Nope... its because its second hand.

A lot of used filters end up getting sold without the leveling device.  Minis don't even have them if memory serves.

I have a few AC300s that I have to get them for... but they are a special order item.  I find it odd that its no problem to buy a new impellor or a suction tube... but a 50 cent piece of plastic is a special order I have to wait a month to get.
To solve this I've been using small stip of styrofoam glued/siliconed to the filter (between filter and glass) just to slant the filter overflow towards the tank.

In the past, I've used an old suction cup from an old heater holder, or even a window decoration to do the same.
Or in a pinch, a folded piece of paper while I find something that did not fall down behind the tank when I move the filter to clean it.

I use wine corks.  They cusion the glass, and lying flat lengthwise, are the perfect size for my AC500s/300s, and they are relatively easy to obtain.
