Hi all,

What kind of flow and lighting (specifically watts per gallon) would one need for a bubble tip anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor)?

Thanks,
Andrew

Were you at marinescape today, lol my tomato asked for one for christmas...
Apparently they can grow from 1 to 20 inches in a 20 month period.
It hosts 13 clownfish species.

Unless your tank is over 1 year old and VERY stable, you'd need to have atleast 175 MH. Do not attempt an anemone if you have NO or PC's and only T5 if you have over 500+ watts. WPG is a freshwater scale, we dont use it on salt tanks. 20X flow should be good for anemone's.

Besides water flow and light you should be prepared that this particular type of anemone love to wonder around. Just yesturday my green BTA got into the powerhead intake. I covered the intake with sponge after that, but the anemone left most of its "hands" there and the water was polluted - I'm happy skimmer worked the whole day, so nobody was hurt. Happily for me anemone is still alive...
As for light I have 400w 15000K MH + 2xT5 actinics + 2xT5 10000K, MAG9.5 as sump return and 3 powerheads in my 90G.

Dark and gvv are both right, unless you have a very well or so stable tank your
anemone would be ok.......most cases an anemone would wonder abouts the tank
and find its demise.....most anemones like medium to low flow, except in some cases
like the Atlantic or caribean anemone which likes very strong flow....
as far as light most anemones like very strong light like MH or PC.
Also most anemones must be feed at least once a week.....
search yahoo on types of anemones and find out what you can keep
and its needs.
cheers :D

MH is not required for anemone.  You can keep a very happy anemone under pc lighting if the conditions are right.  I would stick with a buble tip though.  That brings up another point... Depending on the anemone you want to get they require different things.  Read up on the species of anemones you want to get.
