Question about African cichlids!

Will africans do alright for a bit without a heater the heater on my 45 gallon just went wouldnt shut off and almost boiled them and I cant afford to get a new heater till probably thursday!

Just last month, I had to fix a 80 gal tank. All the African were put in 2  25 gal pail with no heather (68 deg.) It took me 3 times to fix the d... tank and the fish staid in the cold for 8 days and hardly any food. All were fine.
