I was doing a small water change on my pond and I noticed a couple of minnows.  Or would they be baby goldfish?  I have 2 shubunkins in there, they must be babies or how on earth would a couple of minnows show up?  I also have a frog.  The babies are just a brown colour, my shubunkins are calico.

I couldn't get any pictures.  They are very small and the water is dark.

I don't know what baby shubunkins look like, but the baby commet goldfish in my pond are plain dark silvery fish with no markings.

I think all goldfish fry start out that boring baby fish colour.  My two fry are fancy goldfish (mix of black moor and orange oranda) and they are still an olive brown colour.  I think they start colouring up at the two or three month mark.  Heres a short video of my two month old fry: http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j194/ksikelly/A%20Mordecai/FRY/?action=view&current=Fry10GVideoJune23.flv

Someone recently posted on the gab forum pics of their common fry at 9/10 weeks - some were coloured orange but some were still the dark colour: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM6h7Dkzwgg

when our goldfish breed in our pond their fry were brown, most of them stayed that color only a few of them ended up changing to orange at about 1 inch

They are definately fry.  I moved my water hyacinth around and there are more than 1.  I hope the parents don't eat them.  They have a lot of places to hide in the hyacinth roots.

When you have only 2 fish in your pond, they are pretty safe. When pond owners have an over crowded pond, most will not survive.
