Only 1 Canadian Entry?

So I was looking at the 2006 International Aquatic Plants Layout Contest winners and I was surprised to read that out of a total of 959 layouts from 36 countries, only 1 entry was from Canada 

The winning aquascape is amazing and I love the No. 3 ranked aquascape from Ukraine (so much depth was created in that aquascape).  Here is a link http://www.aquatic-gardeners.org/ADA2006.html

Thanks for posting that Leng. I enjoyed looking at what can be done if you really set your mind to it. It is impresive, just how much substrate goes into those tanks. They were all quite amazing but the one with the Rotala in two clumps over a field of green was so bold! Really cool stuff.

Amazing. I was disappointed when they only showed 10 pics. I bet they don't have pond snails gobbling up their plants!

Yeah I don't even want to think about the time and money that must have gone into some of those set-ups. Very nice though, thanks for posting them.

all beautiful tanks!  but it's funny how much these tanks look like mountains and "above" water scenes...?

Amazing looking tanks, but in the end I am in it for the fish and not the plants.  With the fish I have, especially the loaches, a setup like this would be destroyed in a few days.

Yeah, most of these tanks are designed to look like landscapes.

Yes........and they have a lot of patient. They must spend hours per day.....I know why only 1 canadian, we have to deal with snow and cold and traffic

i loved that number six one, it was amazing. but i guess putting fish other than a few small ones would ruin the plants. they are beautiful though. thanks for posting them!

I have discus, plecos, zebra loaches, MTS snails, cardinal tetras, amano shrimps, and SAEs in my planted tank and I don't have too many problems with them rearranging the plant.  The trouble was at the beginning when planting ground cover plants such as glossostigma elatinoides.  The MTS would dig them up and I would have to replant the small pieces of glosso until they started to establish their roots.  It comes down to choosing livestock that won't mess with the plants.

It's nice to see the number of Canadian entries increase to 3 this year!  In my view, an inexperienced one, a few of the top ten entries could easily be interchanged with the number 1 spot.  Most of the top entries look so good!
