ok, the stems of the leaves of some of my anubias plants are going brown and rotting away.  I don't think it's simply b/c of the leaves being old.  any ideas?  plastic plants here I come!!!!   >:(

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.  So love the people who treat you right.  Forget about the one's who don't.  Believe everything happens for a reason.  If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.  If it changes your life, let it.  Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

BigDaddy

What sort of ferts are you adding to the tank Roxy?

RoxyDog

none normally.  I did try adding excel for a bit, but then stopped.

I'm wondering if the water movement might not be enough? ie) to move nutrients around?
Not much experience here :), but I have a tank with Anubias, both large and small, not using any ferts., and lots of flow and they seem to be fine. Tank is about 23" deep. The lights are just Hagen Power glow and I believe Lifeglow( I'll have to check tomorrow for sure) Lights are out for tonight, as I should be lol. Sue

Did you increase the fish load or changed your light lately? I moved around my fishes, removed all the substrate, and changed 1 of the light tube on my 2 low light tanks few weeks ago. Since then, lots of the leaves came off, it's started from the node of the leaf and looked like some kind of fungus/disease. I have around 50 of them. It's even worse on the ones without good root system. Give them some time and they should be able to come back. I see new leaves coming out already. Good luck and forget about the artificial stuffs!  :D

RoxyDog

I added reflectors to my crappy lights...if it's not one thing with these anubias, it's something else!   :D

Did you attach the Anubias to rocks and wood? The rhizome of the plant should not be covered by anything as this can cause it to rot.

According to Seachems info center Anubis has the same susceptibility as Vallis to excel. If you were using it every day there was way too much of it for a plant like that. It may have set your plants back.

I use excel and grow anubias and vallis but I only use one or two capfulls a week in my 55 as a Carbon supplement along with a an Iron supplement.

RoxyDog

I didn't use very much, but maybe it was just enough to bother them.  they don't do well regardless.  *sigh*
