I took a few pieces out of my tank and would like them to be completely algae free before I put them back in.  How do I get rid of it?

You can boil, bake, bleach and hydroperoxide it :)

It use the hydroperoxide last time as it is the fastest and cleanest; just a quick thing during a waterchange: take it out pour H2O2 (3% solution from the drug store) over the affected spots. It will react right away, let it do so for like 10 min until you see the reaction slowed down, rinse it a bit under water (not necessary, but always a good idea) and put it back in the tank. It will die off within a week.

The die off is quite nice btw: you will see BBA turning red. Later it will turn white and is yammi enough to be eaten by ottos or plecos.
