One of my Tiger Lotus' sent a new leaf to the surface of the tank. I'm thinking that it might be because the plant is partially shaded by my driftwood. Should I remove this leaf to discourage it from sending more to the surface?

Thanks,

Jeff

It's a normal nature growing behavior for your Tiger Lotus sending leaves to the surface. If your tank's growing condition is good, it'll keep sending leaves out to the water surface unless you pull the plant out and trimmed it's root system. Don't trust the internet myth!  Just my $0.02!  :D

its going to do that regularly (its a lily).  just pinch off the offending leaf (you may even be able to replant it).

I cut the surface runners back as they make their break for the the surface, which they will do regularly.  I find regular pruning of my lotus help to keep the growth more compact and bushy, if that is the look you are going for.

It can also be kept depending on your fish. When I had one in my 65g I left those runners go as it created a shaded area which my loaches loved as they prefer more subdued lighting.

I leave mine but thin them periodically so that enough light can get through to the crypts I used around the Lilly. I am so hoping for a flower  :)
