I was at Critter Jungle this afternoon getting parrot food (it's the only place that sells my parrot's food) and I saw that they had about half a dozen Aponogeton boivinianus!!  I bought one for $6.99.  I consider that to be a great price considering I have never seen one in a shop before and a madagascar laseleaf is $15 +.

They still have some left  ;)  This is what they look like.  I got this image from googling the plant :)

What a cool looking plant. I really like the looks of that one. I did some reading on it and then immediately called Critter Jungle and had them put one aside for me. Going to go pick it up tomorrow.

Thanks for letting us know about this one!

Beautiful plant, great price.  :)  Get's big though, which is lovely if you have a larger  aquarium.  It's nice to see Critter Jungle is carrying some interesting, hard to find plants at such a good price.  Thanks for the heads up.  If we all go rushing in to get this plant, maybe they will bring in some other unusual plants.  ;)
Here's a description of the plant for those curious.

I also read that it's difficult to grow and that it seems to need a faster current to be happy.  I guess I'll be putting it in front of the filter output!  My tank is small now but I'm getting a 75 Gallon.  If I don't find it under the christmas tree, I'll be making a trip to BA to get it o boxing day.  I probably shouldn't have got the plant until the tank isset up, but I have a few that it can temp live in.  After all, it's not like this plant is available all the time!

I like Critter Jungle.  It's the only privately owned shop left in Ottawa that i know of, plus it's the only place that sells my parrot's preferred brand of kibble :)  What we go through for our pets! :)

Great looking plant to be sure, but your 75 gallon tank won't be large enough still.

As for the only privately owned shop left in Ottawa, not quite correct, there is also Pet Circus on Bank Street downtown, and in downtown Embrun, as well as Fish Tails Aquariums on St Joseph Blvd.  Then there is Marinescape, La Niche in Gatineau and a few others I am sure I am forgetting.  Just had to correct that bit of information. :)

75 will not be big enough?  Oh dear  :o

Not to discourage you of course, but this plant should be in a tank no less than 24 inches tall, 29",30",or even 31" would be better, and equally as important, an 18" depth tank(front to back) will be overwhelmed by the plant, enough to cause a problem with some fish trying to get past it.  It is much more suited to a tank at least 4' by 2' by 2', then it has room to grow and it doesn't completely take over the tank.  Sorry.

it was $11.99 when i found it early last week which was why i didnt get it.... they have other nice looking plans but way too over priced... so are the fish... and the staff gave me such a hardtime to exchange my dead neons... )-:

There is a cichlid fellow out our way that was growing some madagascar lace plants in his 24" high tank.  The first pic is while the plant is still rooted in the substrate.  The second pic is when he pulled it out of the tank.
