plants look like crap

Added fert. tabs yesterday,i think i'm on the right track but should i remove the leaves with the brown tips,weak steams or thinning leaves

Yes, absolutely, if the plant parts aren't contributing to the plant as a whole with good growth, then they are dying and sucking the life out of the plant that is trying to rescue them, so prune away all the dead and deadish stuff, your plant will thank you for it.

yes ditto what babble fish said, i had a small amazon sword not doing so well, i took off the dead leaves and now it's looking great!
