I'm building a canopy for 2 x 24" T5s for a FW tank.

I went to check out the plywood selection at Rona today; the only finished 1/2" plywood they have is fir/pine.

Is it OK to use fir and pine over an aquarium?

And also, what should I finish the inside of the canopy with? White paint... waterbourne varathane... nothing...?

Thanks,

Zoe

the wood is fine to use. I left the inside of my canopy unfinnished. Paint it white if you want. I used 1/4 inch plywood to skin my canopy and used 2x2's for the frame. 1/2 inch will be heavy. Its all personal preferance though

Thanks!

I just finished up some 3' x 2' x 3' snake cages in 3/4" plywood, so this canopy'll seem like nothing :P
