I am setting up a 90g comunity tank and I am thinking I might try to keep some live plants this time,  it going to have 160w of t5 lighting  nothing high tech.

it will house 4 parrots, 4 gourami and three pleco's

what is easy to keep?

thanks

Dave

You can grow lots of live plants in your tank with 160 watts of T5 lighting, except the more demanding high light category. The problem is your 4 parrot fishes, they will re-aquascape your tank and dig up your plants every few days! Welcome to the green side! :)

Btw, what kind of pleco are they?

Thats one thing that pissed me off when i was big into plants, the cichlids would tear everything up everyday till i gave up...

anyways Ive got some plant ill give you for your tank if you want them (free) becouse im tearing down the 55 planted. A big anubius, some java fern and a crypt. They have seen better days since i havent run my lights in months but im shure you could bring em back to life! anyways pm me if you want them, if your close ill drop em' off to you. Good luck, lot of work having a planted tank  ;D

Ya I figured they would want to set it up to suit them, lol.   I have an albino rubber lip and an albino bushy nose pleco, I think I will get one more bushy nose when I get it all setup.

I had the same occupants like yours a while back, a pair of parrots, large common pleco and gouramies. If you just have a flat surface of substrate, the parrots will dig it up for spawning. You can give them a special corner for that and use the rest of the tank for planting. Litter the planting area with rocks and driftwood. The parrots prefer an open space for digging. Put a weight on newly planted plants. The parrots won't eat or chew off your plants (their lips are deformed), but they will push them around. I used roks formation and vals as a fence or divider between their digging playground and my aquascaping area. It works very well. They tried hard to push the vals around and give up after a few days. Good luck :)
