Has anyone calculated the blended/average cost in KW/HR including delivery etc for a week of hydro...

Somehthing like
(Loaded cost of 1KW/HR * hours at peak in 7 days) + (Loaded Cost of 1KW/HR & hours at mid range in 7 days) + (Loaded Costs of 1KWHR * hours at low range in 7 days)  = cost of a 1KW/HR device running 24x7 days (for one week)?

I know there have been several conversations (threads) on this type of info.  I also know that my averaged KW/HR of my tank is 1400

LIGHTS:   200watts/hr  - 800w/hr for 6hrs = 200 watts/hr for 24 hours
PUMPS:  1180watts/hr - CL pumps - 2x340watts  + 260 Return Pump + 240 Skimmer Pump
HEAT:      200watts/hr - guess bases upon 40% usage (on-time) of

TOTAL:  1580watts/hr each hour
         :  1.58KWHrs each hour

So if I knew the "loaded average cost of 1kw/hr" I could multiple 1.58 * that number and get a horrible answer (see math hurts) for what it costs to run the tank for a year.   Which I suspect is about $2500.

I haven't done all the math but I do know the following:

1. Add 4% for distribution loss, Hydro does that on your bill for you
2. In my case, tax/debt/etc is 8.1 cents/KWh
3. 35 hours in a week are peak
4. 35 hours in a week are mid-peak
5. 98 hours in a week are off-peak

5 minutes of work and you can have your number.

RossW

I forgot I had done all the math... You are running close to $165 per month based on my costs for hydro.

So what's the blended KW/HR rate for items that are on 24/7?

There are 30.5days each month which is 732 hours.

$165/732 = 0.22cents/hour (for my load)

I use 1.58 KW/hr so thats 0.14cents/hr for a 1.0KW

SO, anyone who can work out their 24x7 DRAW (LOAD) can multiply out by 0.14$ AND GET an approximate running cost.

RossW

I am finally at home and in front of my spreadsheet... here is what I calculated when I did this a couple months back.

Your monthly cost would be: $178.50

The blended rate works out to: 15.5 cents/KWh w/ taxes, and everything.  Without tax and everything it is 6.8 cents/KWh

Holy pump wattage.

You make me feel like I shouldn't really debate too long about the 2.5W difference between a MJ-400 and MJ-600.

Thanks Ross!  Thats exact.y the estimation tool I was looking for...

Now my server and SAN costs....  Oh never mind.  Just setup direct deposit to the hydro company and they can send me the left overs.  If there are any...

OttawaFolkFestivum

Using Ross's number I get $1.35 per watt year.

So a 5W MJ-400 would cost $6.75 to run for the year;
7.5W MJ-600 costs about $10.18 per year.

If you left one 54W T5 burning all year 24/7 it would cost $73.

Or if a 200W heater was locked on, $270.

So determining how much the heater is cycling is considerable - very considerable if you have less pump power than HU.
