Well I bought a (barely) used ReefBrite 48" Blue strip today, for what I consider a really good price.  The only problem is, my tank is only 36"...  Fear not, in about an hour, my newly acquired ReefBrite lost some weight, AND had a baby!

First pic is the strip itself.
2nd pic shows one end opened, which allows for the splash guard to be pulled out.
3rd pic shows the 48" now being a 36"
4th pic shows the splash guard after I cut it.  It was as simple as scoring it with a utility knife and snapping it.
5th pic shows the parts, cut to lenght, ready to be re-assembled
6th pic shows the newly made 36" strip
7th pic shows how bad I am with a camera, but it also shows that everything still works.
8th pic shows the baby ReefBrite I'll be able to put in my 14G cube.

keep an eye on the temperature, by removing the 6 leds you have now changed the performance.
you are driving them much harder. If it is to hot to touch don't use it until you can beef up the heat sink or add some fans in the fixture.

edit: this might not be correct, i think you mentioned in another post that each 6 leds have there own driver?

This is the case.  Each 6 led strip has its own driver.  So I removed a strip and a driver.  Everything else runs at the same voltage and amps as before.  AND I can use the driver and the leftover 6 led strip in my 14g cube.

I really like what the ReefBrite adds to the tank.  I had a 50/50 strip, and now the blue strip.  The shimmer is really nice, and the colors pop like crazy.  I have a 4 bulb T5 as my main lighting.
