Hey,

I'm building a new setup with a tank I purchased at the auction and the glass is quite scratched. I have read online about cerium oxide and a buffing pad but I don't want to get into anything complicated. Does anyone know a simple, cheap method to removing minor scratches on aquarium glass?

Thanks!

If you can catch the scratch with a fingernail, it is too deep to be buffed without comprising the strength of the tank.

Anyone know how to remove scratches from a glass table?

Feivel

Im a full time welding student and work part-time at a welding shop that does railings, we do some that have glass inserts. maybee my boss could inform me of any ways of removing the scratches from the glass. ill ask him next time i see him but may not be untill next week.

Hey Feivel,

That would be appreciated!

You can't feel the scratches with a fingernail so they aren't that deep. I'm hoping I can buff them out with some household products. I just don't know what to try..

Try clear nail polish,  it really works.  Doesn't totally remove it but does a good job of reducing the visibilty of the scratches.  You must apply several coats.  My method has been to apply one coat and let dry.  Using a paint or window scrapper remove excess and then re-apply, do this until the scratch is completely filled add water and you will see the difference.  I have never had any adverse effects to my fish either.

Thank you!

And simply using nail polish remover if you don't like the results would work, I'd imagine?
