I am looking to start a Daphnia colony. I have already started a green water tank, which I want to put a mystery snail into and want breed some Daphnia in there.
Since I am looking to breed some "nano" freshwater fish, I believe I would be better off with "Daphnia moina". If you can help me out that would be appreciated.
What are your thoughts on Daphnia as a food source.  Have you tried using snail poop as a food supplement with Daphnia. If my tank is full of algae should I still feed them. How do you maintain your colony? Can I maintain a colony from "crashing" if enough Daphnia are harvested regularly?

I am also looking - it will require more research. Please let me know if you find a source!
I do know that some people are successful using yeast dissolved/suspended in water as the food source. Green water can be just as difficult to maintain as the culture itself.

Vinegar eels are a great live food source and easy to culture!

Kijiji has a source. He has magna and moina for 15.  I prefer to buy from within the club I guess maybe.  Green water is easy organic fert stick and window sill.
I dont mean to brag but I have a real knack for growing algae.

I have been looking at that as well. (vinegar eels). They seem really user friendly. How do you harvest yours?

Were you able to obtain a starter? Thanks to flyingpancake I've got the moina just starting to double in population. I'm using nutritional yeast or soy flour/powdered spirulina mix for food & seems to be working.
