Evan

Hello,

I have just registered.  I have had fish for a couple of years.  I currently have a couple of cichlids and various tetras in two separate tanks.

Within a few weeks I am getting a 65G tank.   I will be putting Clown loaches, Some variety of Dwarf Cichlid and possibly Angel Fish.  I am still debating discus but it's not happening.  I also plan to have several plants.

I need to decide on the filter.  I am looking at the fluval line and the Eheim canisters.

The Eheims always get great review and seem well put together.

I have heard mixed opinions about the fluval.  I have heard great, all the way down to garbage container.

So if anyone can tell me their experiences with the Fluval it would be greatly appreciated.  Basically I am trying to find out if the Eheim is worth the extra $$.

thanks Evan

I use a fluval 304 in my 50 and it's been my most reliable filter, I shelled out the extra money and bought a magnum 350 pro system for my 77 and it's currently at my old house collecting dust, was too much work and too much expense to keep it operational..the fluval has been extremely low cost and low maintenance.

I have two fluval 204's on my 55... they have been going strong for more than two years now with no problems... aside from the damn suction cups to attach the intake/exhaust to the glass (but hey, they're just rubber and they all go from time to time). Also, no fish loss, steady levels of nitrate/nitrite, negligible phosphates and ammonia...

I also heard bad things before I bought, but i woudn't go any other way now that I own a couple....

Evan

thanks  I am going to go with the fluval

actually vpilieci, in responce to your complaint about the suction cups, the new series of fluval 04's that issue has been corrected they have almost redone it all, they now use a mold with what look like o-rings you can slide the tubes into so they do not stray too far.

Just to be different, I have an Eheim, and love how extremely quiet it is.  Never had a Fluval though.

:)

fluvals are very quiet too, I had mine right beside my bed where I sleep and it never bothered me, other then when the waterline was below the output..but I would suspect that would cause noise with any filter..to be fair to eheim I have never tried them either..and have heard good things about them, but rarely go out to kanata or orleans so getting media would be difficult

I have a 404 and the Eheim Classic 2215. The have the professionel series (2028, 2026), which are beautiful. Anyway, for the price, I would get the 404. It's the most affordable filter out there. I do not see what everyone is raving about Eheim for.

Evan

Well I lied I said I was getting the fluval but I went with the Eheim.
I actually did buy the Fluval and return it.  After actually taking the Eheim out of the box and actually comparing the two I had to buy the Eheim.

It all depends which Eheim you bought? The classic series are good, but priced too high compared to the Fluval. The new Professionel II series... that is amazing. A little piece of heaven in a canister. :)

Cheers,
JJ

Evan

I did get the professional 2.    I agree that the classic was overpriced compared to the fluval as well

wu-gwei

Nice! You sure got money there my friend... lol
Which one did you get 2028, the big boy or the 2026? What are you running on it?

Cheers,
JJ

Evan

I got the 2026

I have a 75 Gallon Tank.  There is nothing in it yet except a few  plants and a piece of bogwood.

I did not find it that much more compared to the fluval when I looked at what I was getting.

I don't really have any money but I  my friends at Visa do :)

I will be putting Angels and Clown Loaches in it for sure.
